MS - Chemometrics - COSIMA

Summary of Results:  Software Simulation of TOF-SIMS

Example:  Primary Ion Distribution

Introduction

Method

Software SimTof

K and C3H3

Primary Ion Distribution

Reflector Potential

Aim of the example

Influence of different temporal intensity distributions of the primary ion pulses on the signals for the ions K+ (mass 38.964) and C3H3+ (mass 39.024).

Input

For details see Method and example 1.

Number of secondary ions: 10000

TOF geometry: with ion reflector (similar to the COSIMA instrument)

Result

primary ion pulse

signal

mass resolution  ca 30000

mass resolution  3800

mass resolution  1200

The pulse width of the primary ions heavily influences the mass resolution.
