Summary of Results:  Software Simulation of TOF-SIMS

Introduction

Software SimTof has been developed to simulate simple experiments with a virtual time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometer (TOF-SIMS). This work is related to the planned COSIMA experiments in which a TOF-SIMS instrument will analyze comet dust particles during the ROSETTA space mission.

Software SimTof is dedicated:

to support the development of data acquisition software for COSIMA,

to be used in courses on mass spectrometry.

SimTof is part of the diploma work by G. Hinterndorfer. Thanks for contributions to the software development by N. Kerö (Inst. of Appl. Electronics and Quantum Electronics, Vienna University of Technology). Constructive discussions with N. Utterback (Santa Barbara, USA), J. Kissel (Garching, Germany) and F.R. Krueger (Darmstadt, Germany) are acknowledged.
