Some Results

COSIMA is a mass spectrometer (TOF-SIMS type) dedicated to collect and analyze dust particles near the comet Wirtanen during the ESA space mission ROSETTA. Principal aim of the project MS-Chemometrics-COSIMA is the development of chemometric methods for the interpretation of data which are expected from organic compounds in cometary material.

Because the COSIMA instrument is still in a testing state a set of reference compounds were measured by the method PDMS which gives similar mass spectra like SIMS.

Principal topics of chemometrics work are:

l    appropriate transformation of mass spectral data,

l    exploratory data analysis of spectra-structure relationships,

      l    classification of substance classes,

l    spectral similarity that reflects structural similarity.
