Assembling the instrument for operation
on-board of Rosetta (pictures: Jochen Kissel).
The
instrument COSIMA on-board of Rosetta consisted of three main parts.
(1) A target
storage and manipulation unit (TMU); (2) a microscope with camera (COSISCOPE);
and (3) a time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometer (TOF-SIMS). Mass of
COSIMA was 20 kg, power consumption was 20 W.
