Japanese momiji, "red leaves" or
"maple tree" and kari,
"hunting", is the Japanese tradition of going to visit scenic areas
where leaves have turned red in the autumn.

In the early 12th century, the name
of the temple was changed to Manshu-in. In the year 1656, Manshu-in was moved to the current site.
