From Wikipedia: Momijigari, from the Japanese momiji, "red leaves" or "maple tree" and kari, "hunting", is the Japanese tradition of going to visit scenic areas where leaves have turned red in the autumn.

 

From Wikipedia: Priest Saicho founded a dojo (a training hall) in Hiei in Enryaku era (782-806) for protecting the nation by Buddhism. In the early 12th century, the name of the temple was changed to Manshu-in. In the year 1656, Manshu-in was moved to the current site.
