From Wikipedia: Maiko is an apprentice geisha. Their jobs
consist of performing songs, dances, and playing the shamisen
(three-stringed Japanese instrument) for visitors at a feast. Maiko are usually
aged 15 to 20 years old and become geisha after learning how to dance and play
the instrument.
Maikos wear kimono with the
train trailing on the floor. They arrange their hairstyle with their own hair
(Japanese traditional hairstyle from Edo period) and put traditional
accessories on their hair with seasonal flowers.
